A Meeting Of Minds
Modern Energy Services (Pty) Ltd was the brain child of Peter Pedrick, a social entrepreneur and Dr Martin Muller, a technical specialist in many fields and Professor Daniel Irurah.
Professor Daniel Irurah – has been promoting sustainability and energy efficiency in cities, buildings and infrastructure for well over 20 years. Over this time he has trained, assisted and advised many of our leading smart city, sustainability and efficiency industry leaders as well as advising governments and authoring the South African Environment and Climate Change Strategy for the Department of Energy in 2015.
Dr Martin Müller is a knowledge leader in technical and IoT systems, including ICT hardware design, energy and mining. Sitting on the steering committee of the Wits Digital Mine is part of several important advancements projects that will help build a stronger and safer climate for local miners. He recently established a collaborative academic think tank for Southern African renewable energy.
Peter Pedrick built gapyear.com – a multi-award winning international company, assisting millions of people a year and helping to promote the socio-economic benefits of self-improvement, volunteering and returning to the grass roots of economy building. Peter has a strong business and technical knowledge in engineering, science and enterprise ICT systems.
We believe that we are leading the promotion of Southern African ownership, knowledge and manufacturing. Prioritising locally owned innovation, over foreign import ‘box-dropping’. Using our own skills is proven to create a stronger economy with greater wealth distribution and higher employment.
Modern Energy Services (Pty) Ltd has negotiated the exclusive rights with a Tier 1 international solar PV manufacturer to build a solar PV module manufacturing Megaplant of 100-300MW of size in South Africa. They have also negotiated the knowledge transfer for the Megaplant to be owned by South Africans as well as the skills to design, plan and implement large solar PV arrays. This will mean that Africans can now own the manufacturing skills to supply quality goods and services to the African solar market.
These exclusive deals will give the control and ownership of renewable energy back to Africa where we will no longer be forced to partner with international companies for their supply of products and skills.
OUR MISSION: Within 5 years we believe that we can train & educate over 5,000 thousand people in renewable energy related vocational and higher learning courses and also establish Southern Africa as a key player in the energy and solar industry.
The mission of Modern Energy Services (Pty) Ltd is to build core products and services, within the renewable sector, owned by Africans, using African money, skills, labour and suppliers. Furthermore, it is intended to work closely with local education establishments and training facilities to develop the knowledge, skill sets and innovation within the renewable energy market of the country. It is time to bring the knowledge and economic gains of this sector back to Africa.

Our Team
Our team is made up of some of Southern Africa’s key academics and experts on renewable energy. Together we are devising training courses, local manufacturing business models, improving the concept of renewable design and deployment in Africa and many more related topics. We believe that we can say we are leading a revolution in the way we look at energy for the continent. We are not following European & US standards but creatively thinking of how we can best utilise our most abundant natural resource to benefit the economy and people.
